Eleanor Antin: What time is it? restages two groundbreaking installations of her conceptual "consumer goods" sculpture -
CALIFORNIA LIVES and Portraits Of Eight New York Women - originally presented at alternative spaces in 1969/1970 in New York.
Two sculptures from What time is it? will be included in This Is A Portrait If I Say So: Identity In American Art, 1912 to Today, (curated by Anne Collins Goodyear) at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick, Maine (June 25 - October 23, 2016).
Emily Liebert is a Curatorial Assistant at The Museum of Modern Art in the Department of Painting and Sculpture. Prior to her current position she curated the exhibition Multiple Occupancy: Eleanor Antin's "Selves" (2013-2014) at Columbia University's Wallach Art Gallery and the ICA/Boston, which was a finalist for an International Art Critics Association of America (AICA) annual exhibition award. From 2008-2011 Liebert was a Joan Tisch Teaching Fellow at the Whitney Museum, and participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program (2009-2010). Previously, she worked at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas (2003-2005) and she has taught courses in Columbia's Department of Art History and its School of the Arts. Liebert holds a B.A from Yale (1997) and a Ph.D. from Columbia (2013).
Eleanor Antin uses fictional characters, autobiography and narrative to invent histories. Antin has received major solo shows at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, CA (MOCASD); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and the Jewish Museum, New York. She has participated in exhibitions at the Tate Modern, London, UK, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) ; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw, Poland; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia, for the 2002 Sydney Biennale; Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark; The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C., and the 37th Venice Biennale. Antin has been honored with several retrospectives of her work, including the the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in 1999. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the College Art Association (2006) and a Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts Award from the Women's Caucus for Art, and was also awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in 1997. Eleanor Antin lives and works with her husband, poet David Antin, in San Diego.
