New Artist Announcement: Karin Apollonia Müller
DRFA is announces the representation of Karin Apollonia Müller.
Oct. 3, 2013
Miss Müller uses photography to investigate the play between nature and cultivated spaces: how each tries to control the other. Her images are often made from distant vantage points and are filled with the humor and sadness of chance juxtaposition, as well as the failure of the built environment to comply with the human imperative to order. Müller's current work pulls focus on human life from an even greater distance than did previous series: she works now with images from the reaches of outer space. Karin Apollonia Müller will exhibit these new photographic works in a solo exhibition at DRFA in December, 2013: her first solo exhibition in Los Angeles since 2007.
Karin Apollonia Müller (Germany, b. 1963) received her MFA with honors from the University GHS of Essen. She has received commissions from the J. Paul Getty/CalArts Foundation (2001), the Lannan Foundation (2000), and the DAAD Foundation (1995). Her photographs were exhibited in Into the Sunset: Photography´s Image of the American West (2009) at The Museum of Modern Art, New York. MoMA, as well as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, are among the many public institutions that have exhibited and also hold Müller's work in their permanent collections. Karin Apollonia Müller lives and works both in California and Germany.
