DIANE ROSENSTEIN announces our participation at Paris Photo Los Angeles 2015 at Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood. Please visit us on Stage 32, Booth 10 where we present three artists working in color photography who explore tropes of formal subject matter in photography: the portrait, the still life, and the nude.
Mona Kuhn will show chromogenic prints from Acido Dorado, the new series set inside architect Robert Stone’s mirrored modernist utopia in Joshua Tree, California. Kuhn is best known for her photographs of large-scale dreamlike interpretations of the human form in its natural state. Also on view will be Chanon, from Private. BOOKSIGNING: The artist will sign her monograph, Private (Steidl/DAP, 2014) on Saturday, May 2nd at 2pm @ Artbook D.A.P./
New York Backlot/ Stand C5.
Matthew Rolston’s Talking Heads are monumental portraits of ventriloquist dolls from the Vent Haven Museum’s collection (1820 – 1980). In the tradition of Irving Penn, Rolston set up a portrait studio onsite and photographed each of his subjects in an identical manner: square format, low angle, monochromatic backdrop, and a single light source. The resulting photographs elevate the practice of re-photographing sculptural figures, and are an homage to Warhol’s “Superstars”. Rolston’s monograph -- Talking Heads: The Vent Haven Portraits (Pointed Leaf, 2012) -- will be available at the booth.
